Chinese Etymology Originally Beijing Mandarin. The trick reportedly takes its name from a scam in which unscrupulous antique sellers would rig up damaged porcelain vases to look whole, wait for customers to “break” one by picking it up, then demand that they pay for the item. Compare Japanese 当(あ)たり屋(や) (atariya). 碰瓷源自北京地區的方言用語，指騙徒故意讓他人摔壞假貨，並要求以高價真品或高額金錢賠償的詐財行為。後來也引申為故意製造假車禍等，借以敲詐勒索他人的行為。假車禍又可以分為車對車或人對車。前者通常是為了詐領保險金；後者則大多為了勒索醫藥費、慰問金。 2020年10月，中華人民共和國最高人民法院、中華人民共和國最高人民检察院、中華人民共和國公安部联合印发《关于依法办理“碰瓷”违法犯罪案件的指导意见》。
