Middle Korean Alternative forms 加乙頭 (the hanja form, all three characters phonogramic) Etymology Probably from 갏 (kalh, “knife”) + Sino-Korean 두(頭) (twu, “head, tip”), in reference to the shape of the peak. There are still about a dozen attested locales called 갈두 (^galdu) in modern Korea, most of which are also called 갈머리 (^galmeori) using the native alternative 머리 (meori) for "head".
